The Committees
Housing Committee
The Housing Committee focuses on preserving and expanding safe, affordable, and high-quality housing options for residents. Its work includes housing stability initiatives, property revitalization strategies, tenant and homeowner support, and partnerships that drive responsible development. By addressing both immediate needs and long-term planning, the committee supports stable neighborhoods where families can build roots, wealth, and community.
Greenspace & Technology Committee
The Greenspace & Technology Committee focuses on transforming vacant or underutilized land into vibrant community assets while expanding digital access across the Far South Side. Through urban agriculture, community gardens, environmental stewardship, and smart-city solutions, this committee works to create healthier, greener, and more connected neighborhoods. Initiatives include beautification projects, tech training, and partnerships that bring innovation and sustainability to community spaces
Education Committee
The Education Committee is committed to strengthening cradle-to-career pathways for youth and adults. By partnering with schools, nonprofits, and training providers, the committee works to expand access to high-quality instruction, tutoring, literacy programs, enrichment opportunities, and postsecondary success. Its mission is to ensure that every resident—regardless of age or income—has the tools and support needed to learn, grow, and thrive.
Mental Health for Youth & Family Services Committee
The Mental Health for Youth & Family Services Committee centers community wellness by increasing access to trauma-informed support, counseling, and family-strengthening services. The committee promotes healing through workshops, resource navigation, culturally responsive programming, and community conversations that reduce stigma. By prioritizing mental and emotional wellbeing, the committee helps youth and families build resilience and feel supported at every stage of life.
Economic Development Committee
The Economic Development Committee drives efforts to strengthen local businesses, create jobs, attract investment, and build long-term wealth in Far South Chicago. The committee supports entrepreneurs, expands workforce pipelines, and advances strategic development projects that revitalize commercial corridors. Through collaboration with residents, business leaders, and public partners, the committee champions equitable growth that benefits the entire community.
